Backup to FTP with BackupOnDemand

Backing up data to an FTP site can provide an extra measure of security.  With disk or local area network backup your data is still on-site and could be destroyed with a local catastrophe such as fire or flood.  If your FTP site is off-site, in the event of an on-site disaster, your data is safe.

Do you want to backup your website to a local location?  With BackupOnDemand you can set you FTP location as the source and set the destination to any support type of media, include local drive, network drive, external drive such as USB pen drive, CD or DVD.

BackupOnDemand is so flexible that you can even backup an FTP location to another FTP location.

With BackupOnDemand it is a snap to configure backups to an FTP site.  Below is a sample of how to seup and FTP location to backup data. When creating a new Profile with the Profile Wizard, select the FTP radio button for the destination location and enter the required details as shown below.

Ftp Site:  The name of the FTP site data should be stored to (NOTE: the ftp:// is not required at the beginning of the site name)

Username: The account BackupOnDemand is to use to connect to the FTP site.  This Username should have write and directory creation access.

Password: Password for above Username.

Directory: This is the base location backup data with be store to.  This directory does not need to exist, BackupOnDemand will create directories as needed. (NOTE: in the above example the directory separator is the UNIX style separator "/" and that  leading and trailing / are not required.)

BackupOnDemand can backup to most UNIX FTP servers, and MS-DOS based servers.

Real-time mode is supported, however if your connection to the FTP server is low-speed, and your monitored files change frequently, we recommend to use a Scheduled, or Interval backup method.

Tip: for better protection, you can set a Profile to backup locally in realtime, and a Scheduled Profile to backup data to an FTP site every night.
